ITC Narmada

Ahmedabad, India

A classic contemporary interior with multiple references to the locale and cultural heritage

To inspire the design process for ITC Narmada, Smallwood researched the region to find elements that could positively influence the interior design of the project. The stepping of the building’s façade married well with the stepped wells from the village of Adalaj.

The interiors of the public areas use timber paneling and rich floor patterns to provide a classical feel, but the detailing draws from Indian patterns and decorative elements, which can be seen in the lift lobbies, reception ceilings, and across the F&B outlets.

The guestrooms have a more classical design where the locale is more subtly represented, but fabric patterns, artwork, and accessories still refer to the vernacular of Ahmedabad.
